The Turban band and other stories
"Whilst wandering around the back streets of Cambridge in 2012 i stumbled across the most beautiful craft market, i knew that this would be the perfect backdrop to launch my new and exciting range of vintage accessories. I had always dreamed of having my own little stall and this venture proved to be the perfect place to showcase endless ranges of beautiful designs"
Amanda Sutherland beautiful accessories was launched in 2002 within the bridal industry which was showcased at events, within the boutique as well as through various stockists. Over the years there became a huge demand for vintage style creations both in bridal design and through everyday accessories. In 2012 whilst strolling through the heart of Cambridge the discovery of All Saints craft market influenced the next phase of the business journey where the focus of the range launched into a new and exciting ready to wear range of Hats, neck wear and headbands influenced by vintage design and past eras. Having worked as a costumier for many years previously this came as a new and exciting yet familiar area of fashion design by recreating modern day accessories with a vintage twist.
"Vintage neck wear and hats"
The accessories stall became the perfect place to attract an array of customers from vintage lovers to overseas tourist visitors all of who fell in love with the vast array of designs. This allowed our beautiful designs to be both appreciated and also taken worldwide with many customers returning to their home countries and promoting the hats, neck wear and turban bands.
With the trends on shopping habits changing the gradual buying was turning away from markets and showrooms and after a fabulous 5 years trading at All Saints market with a heavy heart the time had come to promote the accessories through an online marketplace as well as exhibiting at a handful of craft and Christmas events.
Aside from promoting my work through my own website, the doors of Etsy marketplace opened which allowed me to reach worldwide customers and continue my quest for global recognition.
